CELEBRATE THE RETURN OF THE SUN
at the last Winter Solstice Celebration at the Minneapolis Planetarium!

The Minneapolis Planetarium will host its 4th annual Winter Solstice
Celebration on Friday, December 21 from 4:00-8:00pm. The event takes place
before, during, and after the Holidazzle Parade and features $1.00 holiday
star shows, arts & craft activities, telescope observing, and a DAZZLING
FIREWORKS DISPLAY AT 7:45PM in the heart of downtown Minneapolis!

This year the Winter Solstice takes place at exactly 1:22pm CST, when the
Sun shines directly over the Tropic of Capricorn. After this, Winter begins
and the days slowly start getting longer.

ACTIVITIES

HOLIDAY STAR SHOWS 4:00, 4:30,5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 6:30 & 7:00PM
Our popular holiday starshow, 'Tis the Season, will charm and delight both
young and old.


TELESCOPE OBSERVING ONGOING
Telescopes will be set up on Nicollet Mall for views of the moon, planets,
stars, and other celestial delights.


THE SHORTEST BOOK ONGOING
The folks from the Minnesota Center for Book Arts will work with children to
create a solstice book -- the shortest book for the shortest day!


STORY TIME 5:00PM
Minneapolis Public Library's own Susan Carr Brown will read a special
selection of books from the libraries collection with themes pertaining the
our most notorious season - WINTER!


WINTER IN NATURE 5:30PM & 6:30PM
Naturalist Anna Newton, from Tamarack Nature Center, will introduce us to
nature's wonderful world of winter.


FIREWORKS 7:45PM (aprox)
Enjoy a dazzling fireworks display in the heart of downtown Minneapolis.
