Thanks to Sheldon for raising the question of open appointments....and I'd love some advice here.
My goal is to find ways that we can open up this process to many new people. One step we are taking is to not fill any of the commission openings that expire at the end of December for a month.....Current members can serve through January so the public can know these positions are open. (Obviously the current members who want to continue can reapply.) Beginning at the Citizens Fair Jan. 2...and lasting through the month...anyone can submit an application to be on these boards. This will include traditional boards, ie. Planning, Arts, Civil Rights, etc...and general appointments, ie. Library Board, etc. Any other thoughts on how we can make this better? Are there other bodies that have advisory boards, ie. parks and libraries, that can also leave them open through January so citizens can know about all the options? R.T.
