MRI was under contract for one more full year and should have been obligated to fulfill its contract. You can bet your butt, that if Mpls. would have broke the same contract, taxpayers would have been paying via lawsuit by MRI.
As a last hurrah, the fiscally inept group of Belton, Cherryhomes, Campbell, Thurber, Biernat, Johnson, Colvin-Roy, and McDonald (who campaigned so strongly against exactly this type of mismanagement), wanted to stick it to the taxpayers one last time before they were broken up. Deciding to favor this special interest instead of the public is the perfect completion to the last four years of amazingly irresponsible financial boondoggles against the public interest. It must have been time to pay back some campaign donations, or earn future ones, for these seven.
