I've received some news that I find to be amazing and unbelievable.. Linda
Picone has been let go (fired?) as the editor of the Southwest
Journal. Unbelievable to me
in that she took what was a good but ordinary community newspaper and
raised it to a level of quality which is rarely seen in any venue.

I am thinking of all of the awards that the newspaper has won since she
took the
helm - especially the Frank Premacks, and the universal accolades which it
received for its approach to reporting community news. This is, in large
part, thanks to Linda's leadership and the excellent staff that she has
assembled - the quality of her work is simply undisputed.

Each time it hits my doorstep, I eagerly pick the SWJ up to read it
. Linda has through her skills in journalism and her love of S.W.
Minneapolis really created a wonderful, personal and community-like quality
in the paper. Make no mistake about it, she will be sorely missed!

I find it very hard to believe that this done was for any reason of
economy. Or that if it was a problem of a working relationship that
something couldn't have been done ....... in order to preserve the heart
of this wonderful newspaper.

Janis Hall and Terry Gahan -- publishers -- please, say it ain't so..
