January 7, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Chuck Lutz MCDA Special Initiatives (612) 673-5196 TTY: (612) 673-5154 UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO FORM (MINNEAPOLIS) - A new 30-member Upper Mississippi River Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) is now forming. This broad-based group will play a unique role in implementing the city's "Above the Falls" master plan, especially in the areas of policy, funding allocation, project approval and communications. The master plan area extends from Plymouth Avenue/8th Avenue NE to the north city limits. CAC will begin meeting in April. Initially, 20 members and 40 alternates will be selected. The 10 neighborhoods that border the river will each select one member and two alternates. The business community will select five members and 10 alternates, as will the environmental community. These members will be chosen by March 8. Ten more members will then be selected by the CAC. Of the 30 members, 18 will be from the neighborhoods, six will be environmental representatives and six will be business representatives. There will also be two alternates for each member.
