Tim-

I agree with what you are saying. Equal access for
EVERYONE. Is it truly equal access when the only
place for people with special needs can be serviced is
in a one square mile area of the city. Shouldn't they
be able to chose from a variety of areas to live, like
perhaps by a Lake, a park, the creek, the river, in a
suburb, etc.? Or are you saying those nice amenities
should be reserved for those who can afford it and
don't require any services?

My aunt was mentally retarded. When my uncle died who
cared for her, we helped to transition her into a
small residential living facility. She lived in
Marquette Michigan. We had several choices in more
than one suburb and within the city. They were not
clustered together like they are here.

You have not once heard me make any disparaging
remarks about the people the Lydia House facility
would service or that this type of serviced housing
isn't a need. You have never heard me advocate that
we should move out anything or anyone that is
currently living here.

I am only asking that we stop the city and county 30
year policy of clustering it or should I say
containing it all in one square mile.
