I have no vested interest in this discussion beyond my
interest in promoting personal responsibility to those
who could use a dose.

In that capacity, I must point out that if:

"Lydia House it is for those who have experienced
homelessness, chemical dependency, mental
illness(rightly called brain disease) and those who
suffer from AIDS."

Then:

"The problem is that we think of the future residents
of Lydia House and Eliot Arms(?) as less than valued
people like us because of an affliction to their
body or a state of livelihood beyond their control."

Does not correctly describe the situation. Of the four
qualifying attributes of Lydia House residence, only
one (brain disease) meets the definition of an
affliction beyond one's control.

Homelessness may fit in a small number of instances
(spousal abandonment for instance), but the other two
were contracted with the afflicted persons full and
enthusiastic cooperation.

I'm all for helping these people out of a bad
situation, but I comming to grips with what got them
there has to be part of the rehab. process.
