At the risk of using my 2 posts on 2 disparate (or desperate) subjects,
here is some info on Bar Closing hours. I have long been a supporter of
later hours and will even argue this from a traffic safety perspective
along with statistics and graphs. I am frustrated by the failure to
change this in state law. BUT, there is a simple partial solution Mpls
could and should do. State law only controls sale. The inanity that
requires all tables cleared and bars closed by 1:15 is a city ordinance.
As a step the city should get rid of this . Bars/restaurants could do a
last call at 12:55 or thereabouts and late stayers could nurse drinks as
long as they liked. I know many downtown places think this is not
sufficiently profitable, but as a free-market advocate, I would let
anyone try it and see.
