Well then should those who don't have kids pay less in taxes than those who
do, because the folks who don't have kids are subsidizing the schools for
those who do.  That's where this type of logic takes us.....

Yup, that's the major reason.  

David Piehl hit the nail on the head about how high taxation is some of the
cause of the affordable housing crisis.
