Don't mean to lump you guys; trying to economize on space. FIRST: Swift is simply dead wrong. Very specific changes slashing dollars to very specific service categories and populations are itemized--and it's brutal to very real human beings. His previous message is incorrect and misleading. He should do his homework, go online and read the governor's budget--as should others concerned about the impact of this proposed budget. SECOND: I respectfully disagree with David's laudable but mistaken effort here to suggest that these are just statewide issues and not of particular significance to Minneapolis. Re special ed and other general ed impact of this budget--we live in the largest school district in the state. The impact on Mpls schools is a huge and very critical Minneapolis issue. Re cuts in the state human services budget affecting services, housing, etc to adults and children with disabilities, low-income people generally, increases in county share of other costs--the impact in Minneapolis will be of major significance, given the density of people needing these services in Hennepin County, and that impact will carry right over to our property taxes and quality of life IN MINNEAPOLIS. I appreciate David's continuing vigilance re keeping discussions on track, but excluding this discussion would be putting on the blinders. It really is about us.
