A few tugs at the crow thread:

1. A Ukranian man who lived on the Marcy-Holmes block where I grew up was
deathly afraid of two things: crows and city housing inspectors. He gardened
all the time but whenever crows came around would go inside, where he kept
the blinds pulled against the prying eyes of inspectors, who he feared would
notice his rooms were short a few electric outlets.

2. Raptor platforms (affordable housing for predatory birds) were built on
Nicollet Island with NRP funds.

3. Bernd Heinrich wrote a book about crows' cousins ("Ravens in Winter")
that described their cooperative behavior scavenging for food. Maybe crows
are attracted to Minneapolis by the city's reputation as a breeding ground
of co-ops.
