As the maker/enforcer of the rules, I suppose I have to tolerate the
occasional cawing - er, mocking.

However, I do want to reiterate the reason Minneapolis-Issues exists: to
discuss local issues, or unique local effects, that are ignored or
overwhelmed on larger forums.

This may seem too narrow, or too ridiculous, to new (and some old)
members. However, I believe it is essential to keeping the forum
focused. It's one reason we have had impact on the Minneapolis political
scene. On other forums, discussions drift into abstract ideology. Here,
"keeping it local" forces people to better connect issues to things that
actually happen in their lives. Another benefit of local is people
potentially have more affect on how those issues are handled
politically. That is why distant D.C. or state-capitol stuff - while
unarguably important - is left, in large part, to other forums
(including our own sponsor's Minnesota-Politics-Discuss, set up
expressly for statewide issues).

I accept the need to explain this periodically. However, I ask members
to respect this essential nature of a forum that has been fairly
successful and significant for the past 3-plus years.

Now let's get back to discussing local stuff instead of list
management!!

Sincerely,
David Brauer
List manager
