Now it's much harder to distinguish the groups. I've heard the Parks &
Recreation Board referred to as the "park'ers"
(environmentalist/gardens/land preservation) vs. the "recreation'ers"
(sports & group activities), but I don't know if that is accurate. Annie?

Actually any one of the nine on any given day at any given time will tell
you they are an environmentalist (even Walter has raised his level of
awareness on these issues a lot);
and any given day at any given time each commissioner will tell you they
support sports, especially youth sports and programs and activities
especially for our youth. I actually think we've gotten over that hump in
theory.

Our biggest issues when all is said and done is still about the money - how
much there is and what we can spend it on. How we operate and maintain
what we have and yet meet the wants and needs of our very diverse
community. We even need to pay more attention to the sports of our
immigrant groups and new "fangled" sports as they become popular. And this
year like everyone else we are hurting and we are going to bleed a little
bit I am afraid around May. As usual it's finding a balance.

I think I have said enough on all this and need a little "cooling off" time.
Looking forward to folks comments,
Annie Young
citywide Park Commissioner
