Here is coverage of a meeting Rybak had with Sviggum. From the article: Rybak also told Sviggum that a site near Target Center downtown is the best for a new Twins ballpark, because parking and transit infrastructure is already in place and because state money should not go to moving businesses such as the Twins from one city to another. The mayor said that a joint Minneapolis-Hennepin County proposal for funding a local share of the project soon will be announced. ====================================== EY: With budget cuts, why is Rybak proposing public funding for a stadium? Watkins says he can build a stadium with private money. Let him do so. A while back I posted that Stenglein had told me at a property rights meeting that Rybak was ponying up at the county public trough for stadium funding. This is what Stenglein had told me. Rybak wrote me privately to tell me this was inaccurate. This article suggests that Stenglein's story -- and my reporting of it is accurate. Rybak made a big deal about both SSB and Lisa McDonald being public funding for stadium boosters during the campaign. Now his tune changes. This is the type of stuff that makes people cynical about politics and politicians. Since there is now a city hiring freeze, we don't get a civilian SAFE officer for our neighborhood -- but here Rybak is working on funding a stadium. Where are his priorities?
