As the former Director of CNIA/Central Neighborhood Improvement Association, I just want to post for the record, that I am really proud of the work CNIA did. We did alot of GREAT things, but there is always more you can do, you do the best that you can. There will always be conflict and the challenge for all of us, is to pull together to work it out...not put up walls. The CNIA conflict was extreme, for many reasons...I hope folks can learn from it and move ahead. I think we each learn that as we experience any type of conflict at one time or another.
There are many, many talents in the Central neighborhood and by reading the Southside Pride, Councilmember Lilligren wants to pull those talents out and get the neighborhood together again. I would hope that EVERYONE would put down their "swords" and come together....move ahead. I think a quote we should all reflect on in neighborhood work, is a favorite of mine by Dr. King in a 1956 speech.. "As you press on for justice, be sure to move with dignity and discipline, using only the weapon of love. Let no man pull you so low as to hate him. Always avoid violence. If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in your struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos."
