[TB] I find this interesting as there has been considerable writing in
the literature that a female candidate has about a 5% advantage over a
male candidate. Many men fear a female opponent.
If this were the case, why are there not more women in political office?

[TB] I find that statement rather sexist. It should be a goal to get
more *people* both running for office and involved in the process. We
have a tremendous number of people who just don't care enough to get
involved. Those that don't care enough are both men and women.
I, as I stated before, believe this as my opinion. My goal would be to have more women in elected office. Women, again in my opinion, tend to run for reasons other than power. Not to say that men don't, but women certianly tend to. Sexist, yes. But again, my personal belief, Yes.

[TB] Medicine was traditionally dominated by men, today there are more
women entering medical school than men. Other professions have seen
similar changes.
In my experience any political organization welcomes anyone who wants to
be involved with very open arms and it doesn't take long for those with
the desire to take leadership positions.
One of the reasons that there are not more women on the Redistricting
Commission is that more (including Ms. Boland) did not take the
initiative to apply.
Becky Speaking: I would have been more than happy to have served on the redistricing commissio. But I also know that I am not as qualified as Rick Stafford, Matthea, or Tony Scallon. Part of the reason that I am a democrat is because of how women are treated in that party.
As I stated above, this is my opinion and mine alone. I shared it because I felt compelled to, not because I wanted to be ripped apart. I may disagree with your opinion, but I certainly respect it.
