Because there are not enough hours in the day to keep up with posts from the prolific
PennBroKeith, it had escaped my notice until a couple of days ago that he had posted a
public query to me on the Minneapolis Issues list. He asked why I had not noted the
inclusion of several mayoral candidates in the Sept. 6 candidate forum who had been
excluded from previous fora.

The answer, Bro, is that my role in the mayoral campaign was limited mostly to
covering a couple of debates specific to issues I cover as a neighborhoods reporter.
Thus I can't say that I tumbled to the earth-shaking nature of the inclusion of a
couple of added candidates. We can debate offline whether mentioning the
indefatigable Leslie Davis from 6th to 5th place or Bill McGaughey from 12th to 11th.
By the way, if Mr. Davis has conceded the primary, perhaps he could take down his sign
from the 35th St. entrance to 35W where it's illegally placed.

It's possible, Bro, that even had I been aware of the epochal nature of the incluson
of more than the Favored Four that might still have not reported their comments.
Elimination is the essence of journalism, Bro, meaning that condensing two hours of
debate into 17 inches means lots of stuff gets left out. Elimination is also the
essence of elections.

By the way, the Star Tribune wasn't a sponsor of the debate, as you assert. It was
sponsored by Neighbors for Neighborhoods.
