In addition to David's site, I put my own new Minneapolis ward map out there for public discussion and/or ridicule. You can check it out at http://www.lithappens.com/MplsRedist/index.htm
My goals: * Greater compactness; * Increase the likelihood of election of minority council members; * Adjusting population deviations so that growing areas are slightly below the ideal population and population-loss areas are slightly above. This is to accommodate expected growth in areas like Sumner-Glenwood and the areas around the UM campus, as well as a rough adjustment for the U.S. Census's undercount of minorities and people living in multiple-unit buildings. * Treating the Mississippi River as a natural dividing line between communities, crossing it only when necessary; * Hold as many whole neighborhoods together as feasible, but where neighborhoods are split, the two wards should be sympathetic to each other; * And, like David, no attention was paid to the residence of current city council members. -Vic Thorstenson Marcy-Holmes _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
