Does anyone dislike this feature of the proposed design as much as me? I think it stinks. It's an example of an architect getting paid too much money and having too much time on his hands.
Why can't the same argument be made against this skyway-to-nowhere that is made against the Twins stadium? Can we in good conscience spend money to build this monument to wasted effort when we are in the middle (hopefully the middle by now) of a recession? What's the annual average income of people who donated money to the Guthrie? What percentage of them have been homeless? And more important, how many of them are going to want to walk across the hall to look at the skyline of Northeast Minneapolis? Don't get me wrong, I'm for the Guthrie in principal, but this part of the design has really got me nuts. There are two other skyways in downtown that extend over the street into an empty parking lot. I don't think the image of "going nowhere" is one we want to project to outside visitors.
