As Lynnell stated, before considering new names for the legislature, I believe both parties will want to wait until the Court of Appeals publishes the redistricting map on March 19. This map will more than likely move incumbent legislators into new areas and may require some to physically relocate. I think the only way a new candidate thing will work within the established political parties is if there is an new OPEN district. Any more thoughts or rumors regarding Minneapolis legislative configurations?

With Sen. Myron Orfield announcing at the Tuesday caucuses that he won't run in November, we're hearing tons of rumors about who might run in his place to represent southwest Minneapolis. (All of which are dependent on what the re-districting map finally looks like when it's released in a couple of weeks.) The latest name which has come up in the last 12 hours is Catherine Shreves, now Chair of the Minneapolis School Board. I'd absolutely hate to lose Shreves from the School Board--she is enormously effective, smart, tough, and gifted at assembling coalitions of folks. On the other hand, it's been crystal clear this legislative session that many issues involving Minneapolis public schools are decided at the LEGE not the Board. So if she's interested in running, she'd be great. I suppose no one will commit to running until we see that re-districting map. And I know there's plenty of other good candidates out there. But Shreves would be fabulous. She could even run in Edina because she has the right haircut and despite this fact, I am still a huge fan of hers.
