Fourteen years ago I ran against Representative Karen Clark for the House
seat
in District 60A, which with some peripheral changes is now District 61A.
Despite
shortages of funds, and staff, outright lies by my opponent, and the
endorsement
of the Star Tribune's editorial staff, my campaign still managed to draw over
33%
of the vote in the general election, more than any Republican candidate ever
had in
60A or the new 61A.

The composition of the neighborhood has changed greatly since 1988, but
unfortunately many of the issues vexing residents of Phillips and its
adjacent
neighborhoods have not. The elections of Mayor Rybak and Councilman
Zimmerman have shown that Phillips is willing to try something different from
the same old tax-and-spend policies. Want to go for the hat trick, neighbors?
