May 5th assumes a special importance this year for legislative candidates.
It's the last day to move to a new residence if the redistricting
plan moves your district out from under you.
Unlike federal offices, Mn Law requires that you physically reside
in the district 6 months before the election. That's May 5th this
year. (Federal offices require you to reside in the district by the day
you're sworn in to the office, after the election.)
And, for the DFL at least, this is probably before the Minneapolis DFL
legislative endorsing conventions, which are likely to be in the first part
of June.
So given that the Mn State DFL Convention is May 3-5th here in Minneapolis,
some candidates may have to come home all tired from the 3-day State
Convention (and Cinqo de Mayo celebrations) and then have to pack up and
move before midnight!
