>From the Doug Grow article: "Johnson referred to opponents of the Dairy Queen deal as 'southwest Minneapolis activists and elitists' who do not represent the views of most Minneapolitans."
Wow Dairy Queen activists and elitists! I had no idea this section of the subculture existed. next time I'm in Dreamhaven I'll have to see if the DQAE has an underground 'Zine. First, one point of fact, the initial request from PBM Young was regarding Lakes Calhoun and Harriet specifically. They are both, last time I checked, in SW Mpls. That said, I'm just not sure I understand the problem CM Johnson has here? The opinions posted to this list for/against DQ, in my recollection were hardly unanimous. I went back in to the archives, since I apparently have no life (I do, but my arms are jelly after chopping ice on the concrete, and I little energy left for other things), and when Annie initially posed the request for feedback, the initial direct response to her post was 6 for, 4 against, and 1 waffler. The 6 in favor were from Loring, CID, Cleveland, E.Harriet, Linden Hills and Whittier. The 4 against were from ECCO, Downtown, Kingfield, and one unidentified. Only a couple were truly adamant either way, and some of the fors came with reservations regarding signage and the bidding process. Later posts reflected much the same. The List manager himself was hardly against the idea. One more CM Johnson quote: "They've got public officials twisted around their little fingers," said Johnson of the roughly 800 people who participate on the list. This list is hardly too powerful. It is only elitist (a hackneyed word if ever there was one) to the extent that the people who post take the time and care enough to do so. The politicians are hardly wrapped around the fingers of its participants. If that were so there are a number of projects, from Hwy 55 to Block E and others in between that would never have happened because they went counter to the posted prevailing list opinion, and the results at the actual PB meeting and the opinions posted to this forum hardly run arm in arm. richard carney st. paul long time inhabitant of the Lakes area _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
