New federal subpoenas land at city hall - one about the plumbers, and
one asking for info from Joe Duffy, the Chicago lawyer who the city
hired to investigate Brian Herron.

As for Joe Biernat, his lawyer, former U.S. Magistrate and assistant
U.S. Attorney Jan Symchych, said, "We don't believe there's an act of
public corruption here. We've done our homework to give us some degree
of confidence with that. Whether [federal investigators] agree with us
or not remains to be seen, and that's the subject of discussion."

There's also an interesting history of how the city licenses
contractors. It quotes Mayor Rybak saying, "before the latest federal
probe, his administration was considering whether city elected officials
should be appointing the members of city licensing boards. He suggested
that the function could be ceded to the state but said that the issue
remains under study."
