I'm not going to respond to everything I'd like to for the sake of staying
on local topics. Afterwards I'll take up the rest on MediaWonk-L. :')

The take away point I'd like to make is that is takes a seriously
paternalistic attitude to say that a group of motivated citizens held too
much sway in the public arena. It seems like public participation is meant
to be perceived as some kind of nuisance when it's not underwritten by
corporate interests.
