Erik misses this point:

While sports may be part and parcel of this culture, they are not a public
purpose to which public dollars should be funneled for the private
enrichment of owners and players who couldn't care less what they own, where
they play, or who pays for it as long as it is them.

I stand second to no man in his love for sports, except fighting, but
professional sports are not a part of the public's responsibility to prop
up.

Period.
