The North East Business Association (NEBA) has received the City of
Minneapolis' highest environmental recognition, the Environmental
Stewardship Award, for its work over the years to help keep the Northeast
community clean and green. The award, presented to citizens, businesses and
organizations, recognizes significant contribution to improving the city's
environment and quality of life.

"This award is well deserved," said Bill Anderson, deputy director of
Environmental Services, "NEBA has a been a model of how a business
association can improve a commercial corridor environment making it more
attractive for both customers and neighbors."

City Council President and First Ward Council Member Paul Ostrow nominated
NEBA for the Stewardship Award that is awarded annually by the City of
Minneapolis. In making the nomination, the First Ward Council Member cited
NEBA's EnviroMentors, WEED IT & REAP program and corridor planning and
improvement projects such as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
along Central Avenue as examples of the association's outstanding work. Past
recipients have represented a diverse group including Xcel Energy, Cargill,
Minnesota Corn Growers Association and the Green Institute.
