I want to extend my appreciation to Catherine Shreves, Audrey Johnson and the MPS board for their assistance in putting the brakes on the closing of three to four schools in the East River corridor. The revised charge of the task force opens up possibilities for creative solutions to improve our schools other than just "closing and merging". I am confident that the collaboration of the district, the schools' staff and the community will result in viable solutions to the issues that prompted this task force in the first place.
Although we have been bringing our small schools' concerns to the district for several years, sometimes it is not until something is almost lost that people realize its value, and sometimes it is out of crisis that the best ideas are born. Again, many thanks to the MPS board for your support in this process.
