Dear RT, I invited you on a bike tour of some interesting and unique features of our NorthWest quadrant of Mpls. As yet, I have not heard back from you to set the date and itinerary. I have heard back from a number of other folks though, who would like to ride along. Among the folks interested in this healthy and sustainable learning experience are both a TV reporter and a City Council Member.
Similar to bicycle riding, viewing and identifying neighborhood attributes and issues can help in maintaining healthy blood pressure levels for all participants in our ride. So, Mr. Mayor: Are we on? Shall we build momentum for neighborhood improvement by putting foot to pedal and sprocket; both along Wirth Parkway and along West Broadway? I called 911 at 5 PM to report 35 drug sellers lined up and congregating between Bro./Irving north to 21st av. and around the corner to the drug house at 1402-21st av. (next to the Broadway elementary school playground). There were also pit bulls present and a guy offering car stereo gear out of his trunk. A real comfort zone for the thugs and their customers. But not the decent neighbors who are toughing it out for now. I invite my Mayor to take a little bike ride with me. I would enjoy marveling at the natural beauty of Wirth Lake, the Quaking Bog, The last faux stone remnants of the long gone amusement park and other wonders on and off this glorious Parkway with him. Then I will invite him to a most unique and awesome wonder just a few short turns of the bike sprocket away. The deepest valley in the whole North West quadrant of this city. A spot so low that some people who have gone there are never seen alive again. Some people he will see there, if he pals along with me, are dead and do not even know it. This mini-Death Valley is not for a "slow skier", but the mayor can get in and get out. All he will want or need is a quick look. Unlike the honest men, women and children who must reside there, day in and day out, at West Broadway and Irving av. N.
