The Redistricting Commission plan is much better for Loring Park than the
plan presented by the NAACP and associated groups. The Redistricting
Commission wisely recognizes that Loring Park is a part of downtown where
the competing plan takes us out of downtown.

What can be more downtown than its southwestern gateway. The south end of
Nicollet Mall begins in Loring Park, Hennepin Avenue passes through Loring
Park. I-394 brings you into, you guessed it, Loring Park.

Nothing that happens downtown happens without affecting Loring Park.
Aquatennial and Gay Pride parades, the ISAC convention and its related
police action all take place at least in part in Loring Park. If there is
any consideration of communities of interest, Loring Park is part of
downtown.

>From a series of phone calls yesterday, it is clear that our neighborhood
will be represented at the Redistricting Commission hearing next week.
