Jana Metge writes: I just wanted to post that I attended a Saturday meeting sponsored by Inspector Lubinski & the 3rd precinct which focused on Prostitution. 3rd Precinct's Lt. Val Wurster and Lt. Kris Arneson were present, as well as representation from all 3 Phillips Council offices, the CCP/SAFE teams, PRIDE, Prostitution Task Force, Senator Berglin, Commissioner Peter McLaughlin, and many residents. The gathering was held at Park Ave. Methodist Church. This is the 1st in a series of 3 such gatherings. Though it was focused in the 3rd precinct, it is certainly a model to follow throughout the City.
The focus was on prevention and intervention, as well as consequences. There was a lot of education provided as to why folks get into the business of prostitution in the first place. If we are a community, we can't just push the business we don't like around, we need to sit down, look at it, and address it comprehensively. Hats off to Inspector Lubinski and her team. Good meeting, good start, good focus. Jana L.
