Are we to believe that a blocked street is justification for using whatever force is necessary? A blocked trafficway is not synonymous with a life-threatening situation. At best, non-involved people are inconvenienced and at worst they are frightened, but rarely does a mob blocking a street justify whatever force is necessary. It seems that the police are so concerned with applying necessary force that they forget to ask "Is this appropriate force?" I was not at the UofM incident this weekend, so I can not judge the behavior of the police with regards to how they handled the incident. However, I believe I am justified in questioning the attitude of "whatever force is necessary". Necessary must be tempered with appropriate.
