I think its important to note here that Chief Robert Olsons contract was approved in 2001 under the old city council. Many of those council members who approved that contract in 2001 against the wishes of many Minneapolis citizens are still on the council today. Perhaps people should be asking the council members who voted to approve the contract what they recommend now.
Minneapolis is not held hostage by any employee or department head. The council needs to decide whether to buy out the chiefs contract early. That is how this game works with department heads. I guess if enough people call their council members, send them e-mails or write them letters, they may move to do just that. While you have them on the phone or are writing to them, perhaps you can give them some concrete suggestions on how you would like to see a Civilian Review group formed. If you feel strongly about these issues then you need to make the wheel squeak. Posting on Mpls Issues may bring the issue to light, but it's not going to get the job done.
