The new 6th ward boundaries have Ventura Village and
West Phillips in the ward in their entirety. East
Phillips and Midtown are in the 9th ward in their
entirety. Sorry to those who object, but, the days of
one Phillips neighborhood are about to be over.
Ventura Village applied for independent neighborhood
status and it was approved on Thursday by the
committee of the whole. I fully expect the Planning
Commission, the Zoning and Planning Committee and the
City Council and Mayor will approve this application.
For many years now, Phillips has been the only
planning community in Minneapolis with only one
neighborhood. Soon, it will be at least two and I
would wager a guess that within a year or two it will
be four.

I think the alignment of Phillips made good sense.
Both East Phillips and Midtown Phillips have
significant issues on Lake Street. East Phillips has
Hi-lake. They are planning these projects in
conjunction with Powderhorn Park, Longfellow and
Corcoran so it makes sense that they share a common
councilmember. I am not sure how happy Gary Schiff is
with the new alignment.

As far as representation for the newly drawn sixth
ward goes, many of us in Whittier are thrilled that
Robert Lilligren has been redistricted into our ward.
I support him wholeheartedly and will work very hard
to make sure he is elected here. I don't know who
else will surface as candidates, but, as long as
Robert Lilligren is in the sixth ward, I am supporting
him 150%.

I truly believe the redistricting thing is far from
over. I have heard of at least 3 law suits that will
be filed, mostly over the configuration of the 7th
ward v.s. the 5th. So, it's not over till it's over.
