I DO believe that the public has to go the next step, to
the Court!

I am so frustrated with the process. We've got a Charter
Commission that feels it's okay to appoint a Commission
that doesn't reflect the City (there definitely wasn't 40%
people of color on the commission, and there definitely
weren't 50% women).

Why are we not surprised that a non-representative
Commission would present a plan that is non-representative
of the city.

My hope on the 18th is that some of the Commissioners will
come to their senses and refuse to sign the plan.

In that this was Rick Stafford's plan (he's a personal
friend, but definitely a political foe on this issue), the
DFL has a LOT of answering to do to the people in the City
of Minneapolis, that is primarily a DFL city. There are
some serious political ramifications from the plan. How
will people of color vote this November? (We have
traditionally been DFL.)

Am I angry? No, I am past that. But I will not take this
laying down.

On paper the DFL is the party for the people. I will work
to force the DFL to live up to the paper that it passes out
during major elections.

This IS a major election. I believe we NEED Wellstone in
office. But as I see it right now, the DFL has a hell of a
lot of explaining to do, and Wellstone could suffer the
brunt of the DFL's continuous arrogance and lack of concern
for poor people and people of color!

"Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation are people who want
crops without plowing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they
want the ocean without the roar of its many waters.

The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But
it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand: it never has and it
never will." -- Frederick Douglas
