Find traveling downtown to pick up a permit or job application at the City of Minneapolis a bother? No more hassles fighting traffic and finding parking. The City is now coming to a neighborhood near you! Two one-stop-shop Community Service Centers opened to the public April 1. Located in the lobby at Fire Station No. 2 at 141 13th Avenue N.E. and Fire Station No. 17, 330 E. 38th Street, these convenient Centers will provide information and literature that have usually been available at City offices downtown.
"We are excited to bring the one-stop-shop concept to an open, safe and convenient location," says Mayor R.T. Rybak. "By reaching out to our residents, we are bringing City Hall to the neighborhoods. These two locations are just the beginning. In the future, we hope to allow our residents to pay bills, apply for jobs online and request City repair services at these locations." Information available at the Centers includes position announcements; City job applications; permit information; voter registration forms; City directory of services; the Housing Maintenance Code guide; and housing regulations. Brochures on street sweeping, upcoming elections, public official contact information and snow emergencies (in English, Somali and Spanish) will also be available. The Centers will also have Minneapolis Public Libraries and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board information and brochures. "By using existing locations and staff, we have found an efficient way to extend services to the public," agrees Rocco Forte', Minneapolis Fire Chief. "We will also continue to administer services such as blood pressure checks, car seat safety clinics and graffiti removal kits without compromising fire safety and first responder services we provide." The Community Service Centers will be open from noon to 8 p.m., seven days a week and staffed by City employees and Fire Department personnel. -30- Vaman Pai Communications Department City of Minneapolis 612.673.2123 952.365.6588 (pager) _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
