Keeping this a Mpls Thread-- Two books by Minneapolis authors that I highly recommend:
Our Sometime Sister (fiction) by Norah Labiner, and Fire in the Hole: A Mortarman in Vietnam (memoir) by J. Michael Orange (Note: This book can be rough on you.) As part of a class taught by Carol Bly at the U of M, I actually had to read a book called "Groupthink," which analyzed the planning procedures and strategic rationale of key figures at important junctures in U.S. history (Bay of Pigs, Pearl Harbor, Cuban Missile Crisis, etc.) and assessed each policy's success or failure as a result of the decision-making process involved (i.e., whether the process allowed for reasoned dissent or degenerated into a group-hug mentality). I found this to be a highly interesting and disturbing read. I don't remember the author's name but I can find it again later, if anyone's interested.
