Here's a short update on the Action Group, which was established to address
the process for redesigning and improving the independent review of
citizens' complaints against police officers in Minneapolis (the Minneapolis
Civilian Review Authority) ...
The first meeting of the Action Group was Wednesday, April 17. At that
time, the Action Group decided to meet every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30
p.m. through the first week in June ... all meetings will be held in Room
333 of City Hall.
In addition to these weekly meetings, the Action Group will be reaching out
to the community via a series of community meetings/dialogues to seek input
and feedback into the process. Determining an outreach plan will be one of
the items discussed during the next Action Group meeting.
The next Action Group meeting will be held:
Wednesday, April 24
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.,
Room 333 City Hall
(agenda follows)
The redesign of the Minneapolis Civilian Review Authority is the result of
City Council budget deliberations and actions earlier in 2002. A 60-day
timeline to develop recommendations for the redesign (effective April 1) was
established, with a proposal to be presented for action at the June 7 City
Council meeting. The 24-member Action Group includes both community and
City of Minneapolis representatives and was named by City Coordinator John
Moir, who was directed to lead the redesign process by the Minneapolis City
Council. Action Group members include representatives from the civil
rights, mental health, and criminal justice fields.
