Happy Earth Day everyone-

A relatively older book, still totally relevant today--

"Soft Energy Paths- Toward a Durable Peace," by Amory B. Lovins
first published in 1977 by Friends of the Earth,
much of it, I believe, published earlier in Foreign Affairs magazine.

Amory Lovins is unquestionably a leading world expert in the areas of energy
policy and technology options. This early volume discusses energy policy
issues, conventional non-renewable energy resources and conversion
technologies as well as renewable energy resources and conversion
technologies. Good discussion on energy "quality' issues-- the first and
second law of thermodynamics' issues we never hear about any more;
appropriate technology for meeting different end-use tasks, etc. Also good
discussion on nuclear power and proliferation issues-- all still relevant
today. Excellent energy primer for anyone interested. Check the libraries.

Another good volume he wrote a couple years ago with Paul Hawken is
"Natural Capitalism," available in most Mpls. and Henn. Co Libraries.

And for those really interested in energy policy, technology, conservation
and new sustainable development issues...
see Rocky Mountain Institute web site: www.rmi.org
and their newsletter RMI Solutions... lots of PDF on the web site.
