I have come aware of the plight of an elderly woman who may lose the house she has rented for 12 years but she doesn't want to move.
This house is for sale by owner and is located at 4119 East 54th Street. The owner doesn't want to own it anymore and is looking to sell it. Unfortunately the women who rents there is in her 80's but is still pretty spry and doesn't want to move, especially to an apartment. She however doesn't have the means to purchase the property herself. If the house is sold, she will be told to move. She pays $400 a month rent which she understands is pretty low but all she can afford. The owner wants $80,000 for the house. The house seems to be well maintained (I haven't been inside), but is rather small and is located on an undersized lot. Also the kitchen is woefully inadequate as it doesn't even have a stove. Now by my estimates it would take a monthly rent of about $600 to pay off a 30 year mortgage, yearly taxes and insurance so I understand that it may be difficult for someone to make the numbers work. I found out about this situation based on my position at MPHA, but we just don't have the means to purchase this house. Is there anyone out there willing to buy the house and keep a spunky elderly women in her house? If you drive by the property you will see the for sale sign and contact number. If someone wants the name and number of the elderly woman, e-mail me off-list and I will provide it for you. Thanks. Dean E.
