Or take advantage of the open enrollment to move their
children to suburban school districts while staying in the city. There are hundreds,
possibly thousands of Minneapolis
students in the inner-ring suburban high schools.

Doug, are we living in the same America? The educrats who
have been running the school systems in America's cities have
fought tooth and nail against any kind of real school choice,
whether that choice consists of charter schools or vouchers.
Cleveland and Milwaukee had to go all the way to the Supreme
Court to get vouchers approved, fighting the teachers unions,
ACLU, and city school boards every step of the way. This is
one of the things that has convinced me that the public
school s ystems in the cities will not reform from inside and
must be forced to change by external political pressures.
I also wanted to comment on the conservative talk radio
thread...I've heard of Patriot Radio but don't listen to it;
my taste runs more to Joe Soucheray and Jason Lewis than to
Michael Savage, from all the descriptions I've heard of the man. That having been
said, there are conservatives and there
are conservatives, and then there are Republicans. I'd
appreciate it if people could name names instead of indiscriminately applying the
label "conservative". There's a
lot of difference between the views of, say, R.T. Rybak,
Phyllis Kahn, and Joe Biernat in the DFL, and the same is
true on the Republican/conservative side of the house. Be
accurate and name names, will you?
