On Friday, the full council is voting on a change of the existing western
boundary of Seward. We have had no official notice of this change and no
opportunity to look at the impact or desirability of this plan. There have
been maps with incorrect information that have confused this discussion. The
planning dept. has the historical and recent data of a determination of the
true boundary and the history of the erroneous maps that have led to the
confusion. Basically this dispute is whether the old Soo line tracks or
Hiawatha Ave. should be the border. The most recent maps of neighborhood
boundaries of both Seward and Longfellow are drawn as Hiawatha Ave.
I have no problem in trying to determine what is in the best interests of
both neighborhoods and trying to come to a resolution.
I don't see how the council could consider a change of our border without
involving us in the process. This does not follow the process that the city
council has enacted to deal with such issues. So either the boundary should
not be changed or we should be able to look at how the change will affect us
and the planning that has been done for this area.
Thanks, Scott Vreeland President of the Seward Neighborhood Group, Seward
