[GDL] Witness the problem of poo-pooing process and notification. In the case of changing the north part of Phillips (which most folks just call Phillips and many actually call North Phillips), Ventura Village, Inc., I'm sure, followed the requirements to change the name and obtain independent neighborhood status. Barb has told me off-list that she was personally involved in assisting VV with following the minimum requirements. I guess that's all we should expect, and I'm not sure if one of those requirements is to notify folks in Seward. But, you would think that VV would also notify folks in Spanish or Somali (two of the most prevalent languages in North Phillips), would hold community meetings and make a real effort to notify folks of the name change, and would be more proactive in the neighborhood in setting out this issue and asking for input. But, alas, they didn't, and most folks in the neighborhood don't know much about the name change--and actually, to be honest, don't care that much, which in the end is the real reason the name change is going forward without much fanfare. Congrats to the folks with Ventura Village, Inc., who inevitably will receive the name change later this week As for the border battle, I encourage Seward and VV folks to work it out. In my mind, the physical barrier/boundary of the Hiawatha bridge over Franklin is the most sensical way to draw the border, and the one that I believe everyone in everyday life already recognizes.
