Recall several weeks ago, I posted about a meeting of the "community" that
Urban Ventures Hosted to promote the Colin Powell Youth Center. Well I've
talked to Craig Vanna at the district, who manages the partnership programs
for the district. Urban Ventures has no official partnership with the
Minneapolis Public Schools, and therefore, is bringing the districts name
into disrepute unfairly.

UV might volunteer with individual schools, but people and organizations
that volunteer with individual schools should not be claiming they have
partnerships with the district.

I talked with Catherine Shreves, President of the School Board, and she got
the information from me about my concerns -- and she will check into this
further. However, I think I have the answer for now. I'd also like to
thank Judy Farmer on the school board for their concern about this issue.

I'd like to thank CM Gary Schiff for inviting Shreves and Carol Johnson to
his "breakfast with Gary" event.

I'd also like to thank Rep. Neva Walker for meeting with me to talk about
my concerns about State funding for Urban Ventures. Rep. Walker told me
during that meeting that Sen. Berglin mischaracterized Neva's position as
"support", when Neva was just inquiring as to what was happening with the
Senate Finance Committee with the UV proposal.

While at the Central Summit, I asked Art Erickson about Mr. Lundquist's (UV
director of programs) claim that the program did serve gay and lesbian
clients. Art would not answer that question.

I talked with Alan Hooker, a political columnist at Lavender, and he
reported that he wrote a column about the Urban Ventures controversy.
Urban Ventures refused the opportunity to get their story out to Lavender.

Alan's most recent column deals with the Dibble/Shreves race. I would
suggest folks interested in that race to pick up Lavender this week or
check out the website at: http://www.lavendermagazine.com

There is also a letter to the editor from CM Gary Schiff stating he did not
like Lavender Magazine portraying him as "glum."
