As the state convention grinds on with indications that they'll be an open state Senate seat in Minneapolis (the Moe-Julie Sabo ticket is leading on the 4th ballot), the mail brings word that there's an open Minneapolis school board seat as well.
Catherine Shreves had not ruled out running again for the school board if she did not get the Senate District 60 endorsement. Now, she writes delegates, "I will not be a candidate for re-election to the Minneapolis School Board this year. I've had three great years with the School Board, but as Board Chair I have made the contributions I set out to make. The groundwork is laid for future improvements, and this is the appropriate time for me to move on. ... "One thing I've learned on the School Board is that the State Legislature determined education policy and funding. That is one major reason why I am running for the Senate, though I want to have an impact on a broad range of issues beyond education. Catherine adds, "I will not run against DFL endorsement, an endorsement that I sought and gained in my 1999 School Board election bid."
