I feel it's my responsibility to add to the discussion on riding bikes
downtown and otherwise.
It can be dangerous and wearing a helmet is a very good idea.
As it has been mentioned cars, sand, construction, potholes, the list
goes on are a constant hazard. "Paying attention" takes on new meaning
if you intend to ride safely downtown. Don't daydream!
Everyone rides a little bit different, but it's also like the law of
gravity, things happen, so keep your eyes open and watch that other
bike, he or she is just as dangerous. I speak from experience. Crashing
with my girlfriend after the intersection of 31st and Lake......by
getting our handle bars crossed. "Here we go" is what I think when I'm
falling....the same thing every time...

He [ uncle] would always say to me, " You ought to follow the example of
the shunktokecha [wolf]. Even when he is surprised and runs for his
life, he will pause to take one more look at you before he enters his
final retreat. So you must take a second look at everything you see."
