Don't forget the Minnesota History Center. I don't begrudge St. Paul the
granite and limestone pile. I happen to love and belong to the Minnesota
Historical Society. But it did take the organization 150 years to develop
its first historic site in Minneapolis (the Mill City Museum, a
public/private development set to open late this year or early next) --
whereas you fairly trip over MHS-owned sites in the Capitol City.

Still, Minneapolis shares the sweet revenge of the Brainerds and the
International Fallses when it comes to ordering photographs and photocopies
of items from MHS collections (a service which, again, I love and support).

The MHS online fine print reads: "On-site patrons and St. Paul residents:
Add 7 percent sales tax. Residents of greater Minnesota: Add 6.5 percent
sales tax."

So there, at least, is one small compensation for the unscrubbed rubes with
home addresses in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness or the deepest
reaches of Minneapolis.
