That said, why would St. Paul not want to enter into the competition with the help of
Ramsey County? Did they just lack the political support or is there some difference in
the country boundaries (as opposed to the Hennepin/Mpls relationship) that makes this
not a viable option?

I wouldn't want to be paying the tax that would be required just within St. Paul. I
think R.T. Rybak's comments to that effect are not sour grapes as opined by one of the
Strib columnists, but they are dead on - this is too big a project to put on a city
alone...

[TB] I'd like to see the comparisons on the rate of tax which would be required by
Minneapolis, St. Paul and any partnership that Minneapolis or St. Paul would form to
put together a stadium deal.

Clearly Minneapolis has a larger base on which to spread the cost. Does that mean it
would require half the tax rate on this side of the river than in St. Paul? Is it a
lesser difference?

The Mayor has it correct, this isn't a burden that should be borne by any single city.
Not because of the size of the project, but because of its statewide significance.
We made that mistake with the Convention Center, we shouldn't make the same mistake
again.

I do remain unconvinced that there isn't enough money in Major League Baseball to fund
stadiums. Its a multi-billion dollar industry that pays out huge payrolls and has
huge profits. The money is there, they would rather get others to pay for their
business facilities. Hey, I'd like the same deal.
