Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery (at Lake and Cedar) is having a 
Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at 10 am.  Pioneers and Soldiers 
Memorial Cemetery is the oldest existing cemetery in Minneapolis and it 
is awaiting placement on the National Register of Historic Places.  

South High 10th grader Nimo Afyare will be presenting two speeches as 
part of the ceremony.  Nimo is a straight-A student at South, and she 
is a recent refugee from Somalia.  She is also a member of South's 
speech team.

The main address will be presented by Colonel Mike Mihelick, Senior 
Reserve Asst. to the 91st Space Wing Commander at the Minot Air Force 
Base and US Air Force Admissions Liaison Officer/Director for Minnesota.

The Seward Concert Band will be playing at the ceremony.  After the 
ceremony, there will be a reception with refreshments at the Star 
Spangled Banner VFW Post (3018 17th Avenue South).  Everyone is welcome.
