The other candidates included Beverly Larkin, Mrs. Anderson, a nurse at
Abbott, whose husband and now son own the gas station at 46th and 4th
Av., and others to total 10. The other top candidate was Bill Dorn. Dorn
was fairly new to the ward and didn't really know its people or its
issues. All ten of the other candidates had a better grasp of the people
in the ward, if not necessarily the ward's problems. Felien decided to
throw his vote to Herron. Herron never did believe forcing cops to live
in the city was going to improve things, but he did agree to work for it
with Felien. I believe Herron voted for it, though I can't rightly
remember the vote.
